Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard said shortly after dark on Sunday evening that the search for a Buna man believed to have drowned in what is known as "Ten Acre Slough", located northwest of Buna had concluded for the day and would continue on Monday morning.
Searchers from the Jasper County Sheriff's Department, along with other officers from various agencies, including the Texas Parks and Wildlife along with numerous volunteers from the Buna and Evadale Fire Departments have searched the area west of County Road 701 since Friday, when it was reported that 60 year old Steven Morgan of Buna was missing.
Sheriff Havard said the last time anyone heard from Morgan was shortly after 4:00 pm on Friday when he reportedly called his wife and told her that his boat had overturned while he was fishing in the slough. Havard said Morgan reportedly told his wife that he had been able to make it to a small island or ridge.
The deputies and the others converged on the area and searched non-stop until around 2:00 on Saturday morning and then resumed the search at around 8:00 and searched until dark on Saturday evening before returning to the scene on Sunday morning.
