DESOTO PARISH, La. (KSLA) - A driver was ejected from his vehicle during a crash with a saltwater tanker.
On Sept 6, just after 6:30 a.m., the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office (DPSO) and Louisiana State Police (LSP) responded to the scene of a fatal crash between a saltwater tanker and a pick-up truck.
The incident happened at the intersection of Louisiana Highway 169 and Louisiana Highway 172.
During the investigation, troopers discovered that a 2025 Mack Pinnacle was traveling south on LA Highway 169, approaching the intersection of LA Highway 172.
At the same time. A 2000 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Zapien German, 34, of Carthage, Texas, was approaching the intersection from LA Highway 172.
For reasons still under investigation, the Mack saltwater tanker traveled into the intersection and crashed into the Chevrolet.
German, who was not seatbelted at the time, was reportedly ejected and died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Mack truck was properly restrained and sustained no injuries.
No impairment is not suspected, but toxicology samples were taken to be tested.
“Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of making good decisions while operating motor vehicles. Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted; always ensure every occupant is properly restrained and obey all traffic laws. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions like these can mean the difference between life and death,” says LSP.
