A Sabine County child is undergoing treatment after being attacked by the neighbor’s dogs and witnesses said it was completely unprovoked. Sheriff George Griffith says it occurred in the Bronson area.
The report said deputies arrived to find the 10-year-old boy with traumatic injuries to both legs and other parts of the body. The child was taken to a hospital in Lufkin and then transferred to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston.
As deputies and paramedics were tending to the boy they heard gunshots from the neighbor’s house and discovered that he was shooting and killing his dogs which had attacked the child. The report said when deputies approached him, the final dog was trying to attack him and he was out of ammunition, so a deputy shot and killed the dog.
The sheriff said the bodies of the dogs will be tested for rabies.
Meanwhile, the sheriff said criminal charges may possibly be filed against the owner of the dogs.
