RUSK COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - First responders were called to a car on fire early Sunday morning and found a body inside once the flames had been extinguished. According to a release from the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and fire units were called to the area of CR 4132 and CR 4135 in response to a car on fire. Crews were able to extinguish the fire, but then found human remains inside the vehicle, Sheriff Johnwayne Valdez said. Investigators were called to the scene, along with personnel from the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Texas Rangers and the East Texas Auto Theft Task Force. The remains were taken to Dallas for identification, the sheriff said, and authorities are following up on leads. The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who lives in the area and may have video surveillance to call if they find relevant footage. This is an active investigation and foul play is suspected, Valdez said.
