Resident of Sour Lake dies in crash that occurred on Wednesday in Beaumont

Beaumont police say 86-year-old Connie Beard of Sour Lake died in a crash Wednesday afternoon on College near Lindbergh in Beaumont. Police responded to the crash a little after 4 in the afternoon Wednesday. The preliminary investigation shows Beard was driving a white 2008 Chevy Cobalt and exited a parking lot in the 5400 block of College Street, traveling east. The driver of a black 2018 Ford F-250 was also traveling east in the 5400 block of College. Beard decided to attempt a u-turn and was struck by the F-250, according to police. She died at the scene. Justice of the Peace Ben Collins Sr. ordered an autopsy. The driver of the F-250 had minor injuries and was treated by EMS and did not require hospital treatment. All eastbound traffic on College was diverted to Lindbergh and westbound traffic on College was down to one lane.
