Two suspects are still on the run following the early Sunday morning theft of a car and chase that followed.

Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard said the series of events began shortly after 4:00 when emergency dispatchers received a report that a Ford Mustang had been stolen from a home on County Road 474, near Beulah Springs, between Jasper and Kirbyville.

Havard said one his deputies was dispatched to the home and was investigating the incident and gathering information from the owner of the car when an officer from the Jasper Police Department learned the vehicle was traveling east on Highway 190 in front of Eliaja's Cafe in Jasper.

A pursuit began and continued until it ended on County Road 303, just off of Highway 96 and north of Zion Hill, where two men reportedly jumped out and ran into the woods.

Officers from both the Jasper Police and Sheriff's Departments converged on the area and combed the woods but were unable to find the suspects and before the morning was over a deputy from the sheriff's department, David Lampman had even launched a radio controlled drone to look for the suspects but were unable to find them.

The suspects, which have only been described as two black males, were at last word still on the run and officers are asking anyone that might know of their whereabouts to come forth.

Police Chief Garrett Foster said the alert telling officers the stolen car was traveling on Highway 190 here in Jasper came from the so called "Flock" safety cameras mounted in various location around the city. He said once the make, model and license plate of the stolen car was entered into the system, they began to receive reports about the vehicle and it's whereabouts.
