EMORY, Texas (KLTV) - The State Commission on Judicial Conduct has ordered that Rains County Justice of the Peace Robert Jenkins Franklin be suspended without pay from his position in the county.
The order came down June 4, after the commission was presented with a copy of the indictment handed up by the grand jury in the 8th Judicial District Court.
The indictment, State of Texas vs. Robert Jenkins Franklin, was considered by the state commission, they stated, and they concluded that as Franklin is charged with two counts of tampering with a witness, and two counts of official oppression, he should be suspended without pay. They stated in their order that the suspension shall remain in effect until the charges set forth in the grand jury indictment against Franklin are dismissed or he is acquitted, or upon further order of the commission.
The commission retains the authority to reconsider their order if additional information not yet received warrant them to do so.
