Jasper Co Sheriff’s Dept raised $104k for a boat in just 36 hours

Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard says the department raised over $104,000.00 in just 36 hours to purchase a boat to be used by the department on our local waterways.

Havard said immediately after asking for donations, they started coming in in small amounts and big amounts from individuals, families, and businesses.

Havard said “Once again, the hard-working men and women of this community came through for us. You saw the need, you responded immediately, and you made it happen. This boat will save lives — and it will be out on the water because you cared.”

Havard said the boat will be named after Raymond Claude, a jailer that was brutally attacked at the Jasper County Jail on Houston Street in February 1981 and suffered from injuries that would later result in his death in July 1982.

In addition to working for the Sheriff's Department, Claude was also one of the original members of the Jasper County Emergency Corps and served as president of the organization for many years.
