The Kirbyville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a large brush fire on Wednesday at 226 County Road 624, off of FM 1004 West. A burn pile quickly got out of control and began to spread toward the neighboring field, endangering horses and livestock. Kirbyville VFD responded with two brush trucks and a tanker and worked quickly to stop the fire from spreading. Firemen stated that the homeowner was lucky because the fire was spreading slowly. They said the fire could have easily gotten out of control if the wind picked up. The fire department asks that residents use caution now that the burn ban has been lifted. Make sure the weather conditions are acceptable and use all precaution before burning.
