The President on Monday signed into law the $1.2 trillion dollar Infrastructure Bill, paving the way for Interstate 14 to be built through Tyler, Jasper and Newton Counties.
Senators Ted Cruz, of Texas, and Raphael Warnock, of Georgia, were able to get I-14 into the infrastructure package, which had mostly bi-partisan support as it passed through the House and Senate.
Portions of the interstate are already complete and in use in west Texas, and when completed it will run from Midland, Texas to Augusta, Georgia.
In our area, it will generally follow the routes of Highway 190 and State Highway 63, passing through or near Woodville, Jasper, Burkeville, and Leesville. Also planned are spurs out of both Woodville and Jasper following Highways 69 and 96 going down to the Golden Triangle to link up with the Port of Beaumont.
At this point it’s not known when we will learn the path of the interstate through this area, or how quickly – or slowly – it will be built through here.
