KFDM in Beaumont is reporting that a U.S. Postal worker was shot several times Wednesday afternoon, including in the eye, and Beaumont police say a juvenile is the suspect.
Beaumont police say the weapon used in the unprovoked attack in the 2500 block of San Jacinto Street was an Orbeeze gel-based gun.
When officers arrived around 4:15 p.m., they learned several subjects had left the area.
"The investigation revealed the mail carrier had been delivering mail in that area when he was approached by a black male juvenile and three Hispanic male juveniles. The black male juvenile, unprovoked, shot the Mail Carrier several times with an [Orbeez gel-based gun] then fled prior to officers arrival," Beaumont police said in a news release.
All four juvenile suspects were later located and detained in the 2300 block of South 4th Street and the suspected weapon was also located, according to police.
An Orbeez gel-based gun is considered a toy gun, and it's also known as a gel blaster or water pellet gun.
One juvenile was arrested and transported to the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Justice Center.
Beaumont police did not release his age.
The mail carrier was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
