POLK COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A man is in the Polk County jail following an armed standoff with sheriff’s deputies and police officers.

The incident happened on Monday, September 1, according to Sheriff Byron Lyons. 911 dispatchers received call for help from a woman who said she had been assaulted by a man, identified as Stephen Allen Kasprzak. When deputies responded to her home, they said she displayed visible injuries consistent with what she told the dispatcher.

Deputies responded to Kasprzak’s home in Putnam’s Landing subdivision. They tried to speak with him, but they report that he walked out of his garage pointing an assault rifle at them.

A brief standoff followed, Lyons said, with deputies eventually able to take Kasprzak into custody without further incident.

Kasprzak is being held in the Polk County Jail on eight counts of aggravated assault against a public servant, and on count of aggravated assault family/household with weapon.

Lyons said the case remains under investigation.
