JOAQUIN, Texas – A DeSoto Parish man was killed Sunday night after being hit by a train while riding a UTV on the railroad tracks going into Texas, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Texas troopers said the crash happened just before 9 p.m. on a private property railway bridge east of Joaquin.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates Joseph (Jody) Warren, 41, was driving a 2022 Polaris Ranger UTV west on the railway tracks while a train was also westbound. Warren tried to get off the tracks but was unsuccessful and was struck by the train, troopers said.

Warren was pronounced dead on scene by the justice of the peace.

The train conductor and one passenger were not injured.

DPS is continuing its investigation.
