Plane flipped during emergency landing in Livingston, pilot had minor injuries

Polk County Today is reporting that a pilot had minor injuries after his airplane flipped over during an emergency landing late Saturday morning. It happened shortly after 11:00 at the Livingston Municipal Airport. According to the report, 76-year-old D.R. Hill, of Baytown, was piloting the aircraft about 20 miles north of Livingston and headed to Dallas when he said that the engine began making loud noises and losing power. Hill said he turned towards the nearest airport, which was in Livingston, and headed that direction as the plane was slowly descending. Hill said he became very worried that he might crash into Lake Livingston. Once he made it to the airport, the aircraft touched down short of the runway on land that was water-logged from rain. The wheels sank into the soft earth and resulted in the plane flipping over. Other than some cuts and abrasions to his head, Hill was ok. He said he plans to remove the wings from the plane, load it on a truck and take it home to Baytown. This wasn’t the first time that Hill has crashed. The report said that he had been a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War and was shot down.
