Pickup truck leaves street and crashes into a motorhome in East Jasper

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

One man was taken to the hospital and another was taken to jail after a pickup truck left the road and hit a motorhome on the east side of Jasper on Friday morning.

Witnesses at the scene said the Ford pickup truck was traveling east on Martin Luther King Drive and had just passed the Greater New Bethel Baptist Church when it failed to stop at the intersection of MLK and Burch Street and went across the road and crashed into the motorhome.

The owner of the motor home, Duane Brown, said he was in bed when the vehicle hit the motorhome knocking him to the floor, resulting in injuries to his head. Brown was checked out at the scene and then taken by ambulance to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital for additional examination and treatment.

The unidentified driver of the pickup truck was taken to the Jasper County Jail by officers from the Jasper Police Department.

The volunteers of the Jasper Fire Department were dispatched to the scene when it was reported the crash had occurred and propane cylinders in the motorhome might have been damaged. However, firemen soon reported that there were no leaks or fire.
