There was a close call for someone on Sunday evening and at last word police were still trying to find out who that person was.
Firemen and other emergency crews were dispatched to a location, where Recreational Road 255 crosses the Sam Rayburn Dam, shortly before midnight, when it was reported that a 2015 Chevrolet pickup truck was hanging on the concrete barrier dangerously close to falling into the lake.
Firemen and others searched the area, but could not find any sign of anyone who was driving or riding in the vehicle. Officers believe the pickup was traveling westbound on RR-255 when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to strike the barrier several times before coming to a stop on top of the concrete. It appeared that after striking the barrier several times, a front wheel was torn off, causing the vehicle to turn backwards and come to a stop on the rail.
Items from the truck, including a cooler and many beer cans along with a wheel were scattered along the highway.
State Troopers believe the driver of the truck might be from Bridge City in nearby Orange County. However, at last word they were still searching for the driver and investigating the incident.
