Firefighters in Lumberton had their hands full on Friday afternoon after an 18-wheeler tanker truck hauling gasoline rolled over and began leaking fuel. It happened on U.S. Highway 69 near Pinata Drive, just north of the Kountze-Silsbee-Y. Police Chief Danny Sullins said as the gas was leaking from the tanker-trailer, firefighters applied foam to suppress the gas fumes and they were able to stop the leak a few hours later. The company that owns the truck then came in and transferred the 8,500 gallons of gas to another tanker. Fortunately, no fire ever occurred. However, the unidentified driver was transported to St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for treatment of what was said to be non-life-threatening injuries. Meanwhile, the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
