Ore City man killed in 2-vehicle wreck Monday

UPSHUR COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A two-vehicle wreck on Feb. 5 injured several people and took the life of an Ore City man. According to East Mountain Chief of Police Stephen Rathbun, on Monday at around 2:30 p.m., he was notified of a crash in the intersection of Hwy 300 and FM 726. While he was en route, the Upshur County Sheriff’s dispatchers notified him that there were several patients, including one who was trapped in a vehicle. Rathbun, as well as Texas DPS troopers responded. He said that the two vehicles were on either side of the highway, with one person entrapped inside of one of them. Camp County EMS and East Mountain VFD, West Mountain VFD, and Gilmer Fire Department arrived to assist. Traffic was diverted around the scene to FM 3358 while the responders worked to assist the people in the crash. The driver of one vehicle was extricated, but he did not survive. He was identified as Robert Haley of Ore City. His family was notified. The driver and occupants of the second vehicle were taken to CHRISTUS Good Shepherd in Longview by CHRISTUS EMS and Camp County EMS, where they were treated and later released. The investigation into the wreck is ongoing. Rathbun thanked citizens who stopped to render aid and provide statements as well as all responding departments.
