Sheriff Aaron Mitchell reports the Sabine Parish Sheriff's Office along with the Louisiana Department of Health hosted opioid awareness training during the past week. Yolanda Duckworth, Region 7 Overdose Prevention Coordinator, conducted the course for over 80 Sabine Parish Sheriff Deputies. Zwolle Police Officers and the Sabine Parish District Attorney's Office were also in attendance. Duckworth explained opioid addiction, the dangers of fentanyl, and how to administer Narcan (Naloxone) to someone who has overdosed. Opioids are prescription drugs used to treat moderate to severe pain, such as hydrocodone, oxycodone, codeine, morphine, and the synthetic drug fentanyl. The illegal drug, heroin, is also a dangerous opioid. Sheriff Mitchell thanks Duckworth and LDH for presenting this training in Sabine Parish. For more information, visit the following website:
