SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) — One person died and another escaped during a house fire Thursday (Feb. 20) in Shreveport. The identities of the occupants have not been released. Fire crews were summoned to the 7500 block of McArthur Drive at 6:46 p.m. It took 28 minutes for two dozen firefighters using eight units to bring the blaze under control. During their efforts, the fire victim was discovered in the back bedroom of the home. The other occupant got out before firefighters arrived. “With a heavy heart, I must announce we have suffered the second fire death within our city in just as many months of the new year,” Fire Chief Clarence Reese Jr. said. “Our condolences are with the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time. “Please know that the men and women of Shreveport Fire remain committed to the safety of our citizens, and we continue to work tirelessly to prevent such tragedies in the future,” Reese continued. “We ask the community to keep the family in your thoughts as they navigate this heartbreaking loss.” The origin and cause of the fire are being investigated by the Fire Department and the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.
