One person is dead and officers are searching for possibly as many as three suspects following an early Monday morning shooting in Newton. Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard initially said that it was believed to have occurred in the process of a home invasion robbery that took place sometime after 2:00 at a residence on the north side of Newton, commonly known as "The Hill". However, later on Monday, Newton Police Chief Will Jackson said that further investigation no longer supports that theory. The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Tamarcus Traylor. Chief Jackson said the suspects left in a black car. However, the make and model are not known.
