Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard says one person is injured and another is detained after a shooting during the noon hour on Thursday. It happened at a house in the 1100 block of County Road 4076 in the Bon Wier Community.
Havard said deputies arrived and immediately detained the suspect as ambulance personnel treated the victim and then transported them to a hospital. Havard said the victim had a non-life threatening injury.
According to Sheriff Havard, the shooting began with an altercation among family members and he said the shooting was likely a case of self-defense.
No charges have been filed and Havard said the investigation is continuing.
The names of those involved have not yet been released.
