One person is dead and three others are injured following an early Sunday morning shooting in Newton.
Police Chief Will Jackson said that he and others were called to the location, commonly known as “The Hill”, on the north side of town when it was reported that a dispute at a party has escalated into a shooting.
One woman, reportedly from DeRidder, was taken by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital where she died a short time later.
Three others, who were also taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital, were treated for their injuries and one was flown by medical helicopter to a Houston hospital for additional treatment.
What sparked the shooting and who pulled the trigger is still not known. However, Chief Jackson says the investigation is continuing as he and his officers try to sort through the series of events.
The location, which has become known as a late night spot for partying and gambling is the same place where a shooting occurred in February of 2025 leaving 34-year-old Tamarcus Traylor dead. In that case, Chief Jackson said three people had been identified as possible suspects in the case. However, no arrests ever resulted from the incident.
