One child is dead and another is undergoing medical treatment following an accident involving sport utility vehicle west of Jasper. The accident occurred shortly 6:00, on Tuesday evening at the end of County Road 146, just off of Farm Market Road 777.
Beech Grove Fire Chief Jamie Gunter said firemen arrived to find a Polaris ATV on it's side with an 11-year-old boy trapped underneath with a 7-year-old girl nearby. He said two members of the department, Kelsie Wilson and Jonas Went immediately went to work and lifted the side by side while an unidentified home health nurse, who was making a call at a nearby home, pulled the boy out from under the vehicle.
The nurse and the firemen reportedly administered CPR on the boy until an ambulance arrived.
The boy was taken by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital with what was said to be very serious injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The girl was taken by a private vehicle to the hospital with what was said to be minor injuries.
What caused the vehicle to turn over is not known, but word is that no other vehicles were on the road at the time of the crash.
The names of those involved and other details are not available pending completion of a police report.
