officer-involved shooting under investigation

LIVINGSTON — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Texas Rangers are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred two nights ago on April 2, in the 100 block of Pan American Drive, in the City of Livingston. The preliminary information indicates that officers with the Livingston Police Department and the Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a man displaying a gun in the 100 block of Pan American Dr. Upon arrival, officers located the suspect and gave commands, both in English and Spanish, for the suspect to drop the weapon. The suspect then pointed the gun at the officers when he was shot by the first responders. Immediately, the officers began rendering life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived and transported the suspect to CHI St. Luke's Hospital in Livingston, where he was pronounced deceased. The suspect is identified as Jose Luis Hernandez, 66, from Livingston. This is an ongoing investigation. No additional information is available at this time.
