Sad news came out of Nashville on Tuesday. Oak Ridge Boys tenor Joe Bonsall has died at the age of 76. Bonsall had been with the Oak Ridge Boys for 51 years, starting out in 1973 after the departure of tenor Willie Wynn. This was during the last few years of their southern gospel career and the beginning of the transition into a country music act. A native of Phaladelphia, Bonsall suffered from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease, which is an affliction of the motor neurons. The family said it was Bonsall’s wish to have no funeral, and they ask that donations be made in his memory to the ALS Association or to the Vanderbilt Medical Center ALS and Neuroscience Research Center.
