Newton Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a hit and run auto pedestrian accident that occurred in May of this year, leaving a resident of Newton critically injured.
Chief Will Jackson says the break in the case came this week, when he and others who, were assisting the Newton County Sheriff's Department with an unrelated investigation obtained information that revealed not only the identity of the suspect in the case but also the vehicle allegedly involved.
Jackson said he and others went before Newton County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Mike Greer and obtained an arrest warrant charging Bryan Christopher Martin with Collision Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury or Death, which is a 3rd degree felony.
Jackson said the truck, which was allegedly involved in the incident, was found hidden in a barn with the front passenger side of the vehicle still damaged.
Jackson said that upon learning a warrant had been issued for his arrest, Martin, turned himself in to authorities on Thursday morning and was booked into the Newton County Jail.
The victim of the hit and run, Ashley Wiseman, 40, of Newton underwent extensive treatment following the incident and is still under a doctor's care as she continues to suffer from her injuries.
The accident occurred on Highway 87, on the north side of Newton, near the Sunshine Convenience Store on Wednesday May 6th at around 10:00 pm.
