Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby says a store clerk was robbed at gunpoint and was physically assaulted by the suspect on Friday night. According to Burby, it occurred at the Citgo Convenience Store & Gas Station on Highway 190 in Bon Wier. Burby said the suspect demanded money from the clerk, and then hit the clerk on the back of the head with the gun. The clerk was treated at the scene by an EMS crew for a minor injury. According to Burby, the suspect was an unknown male who was wearing a mask and gloves, and he fled on foot with an undetermined amount of money. Burby noted that the circumstances lead him and his deputies to believe that the suspect was familiar with the operations and procedures of the store. If you have any information about the crime or the suspect, you're asked to contact the Newton County Sheriff's Department or any local law enforcement agency. You do not have to give your name.
