Newton Co Sheriff says arrested man gave his brother's ID

Newton County Sheriff Robert. Burby on Tuesday released new information about a February 7th arrest, saying that it was discovered that the man his deputies arrested identified himself as his brother, Chase Mien Chapman, and he was booked into jail on a charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance. However, Burby says after the man was fingerprinted and booked in, it was his fingerprints that later revealed his true identity, which is James Tyler Chapman. Now, Burby says the department is searching for James Chapman. Burby said on Wednesday, February 15th, deputies spotted Chapman driving a vehicle in the Bon Wier Community, but he fled onto county roads until he crashed the vehicle and then managed to get away on foot into a wooded area. Burby says Chapman is now wanted for the following offenses; Fraudulent Use or Possession of Identifying Information, Failure to Identify/Fugitive from Justice, Tampering with Governmental Record with Intent to Defraud or Harm, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
