Along with a new owner, The Kirbyville Banner has a new name. Amanda Rodriguez published her first edition of the 120-year-old newspaper on Wednesday after recently purchasing ownership from Danny Reneaux, and immediately Rodriguez has renamed the paper “The East Texas Banner”. The paper also has a slightly different look, featuring a Texas flag and a Christian flag displayed at the top corners of the front page.
The new name falls in line with what Rodriguez said earlier in the week when she stated that she planned to expand the news coverage area of the weekly paper.
Along with stories being filed by Rodriguez, who worked at The Kirbyville Banner as a reporter many years ago, the paper still has on staff Sandi Saulsbury as a reporter, along with Karen Kilmer handling the bookkeeping and advertisement compositions, and Melissa Perez heading up distribution.
Rodriguez says in addition to widening the coverage area, she also hopes to increase circulation.
