Much needed rain come with wind on Monday here in Jasper

After weeks of no rain and vegetation almost to the point of non-return, several small thunderstorms passed through the Jasper Area on Monday evening, dropping a small amount of rain in a short time. However, the associated winds knocked down trees and interrupted power to some areas. Winds at KJAS on the north side of town were clocked at 35 miles per hour out of the east and just over one quarter of an inch of rainfall was measured at just after 7:00 pm. Workers from the City of Jasper's Electrical Department were on the street almost immediately and were busy restoring power to the areas where the outages occurred and also clearing trees. The hardest hit area seemed to be Hodges Street, just north of College Street, where winds broke a large tree limb causing it to fall across the street downing power lines and splitting a power pole down the middle. No injuries were reported in connection with the severe weather.
