Motorcycle pursuit ended with a crash and suspect fleeing on foot

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department says a Tuesday afternoon pursuit involving a motorcycle ended with a crash and then the suspect fleeing on foot. According to Deputy Chris Wade, he was responding to a report of a motorcycle being abandoned in the woods at the intersection of Highway 96 and County Road 317, about 9 miles south of Jasper. Deputy Wade said as he was responding, someone in a pickup truck stopped and dropped off a man who then got on the motorcycle and started riding away. Wade said he spotted the motorcycle traveling northbound on Highway 96 and attempted to stop the rider, but instead the rider fled, reaching speeds up to 115 miles-per-hour. As they approached the intersection with Farm to Market Road 1005, Wade said the rider went into the opposite lane going head-on into traffic and then tried to turn left onto FM 1005 at a high rate of speed. However, the motorcycle instead wrecked. He said the suspect then fled on foot into a pine tree plantation and, at last word, remained at-large.
