The Newton County Sheriff’s Department made a drug arrest on Sunday night in the Deweyville area. Sheriff Robert Burby said it started with a traffic stop, and then the department’s K-9 alerted to the smell of drugs. Burby said a search of the 2022 Dodge pickup truck turned up drug paraphernalia and 1.57 grams of methamphetamine. The driver and passenger were both arrested. Their names and charges have not yet been released.
