Merryville Police remind public that Tiger Island Wildfire has displaced wildlife

As fire crews continue to battle the ongoing Tiger Island Wildfire between Merryville and Singer, the Merryville Police Department has issued a reminder to residents to be mindful of displaced wildlife which may be coming into the town of Merryville to escape the fire area. A similar scenario occurred during the recent Ebenezer Community fire as wildlife scurried to safety while the fire was raging in the areas where they lived. As of Thursday, the Tiger Island Wildfire was still only about 50% contained. However, the good news is apparently it’s no longer growing. On Tuesday the size was listed as 33,294 acres, but as of Thursday, forestry officials listed the size as 31,342 acres. Last week Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards said the Tiger Island Wildfire was the largest in the recorded history of Louisiana. In the month of August alone, state officials say there have been about 600 wildfires, and the entire state remains under a burn ban.
