A Marshall woman who paid an undercover cop to kill her husband in a murder-for-hire scheme pleaded guilty Wednesday to the offense — solicitation to commit capital murder while remuneration.
Trisha Groot George, 34, was sentenced to five years in the state’s prison system for the crime following her guilty plea before 71st Judicial District Judge Brad Morin.
George was arrested in August 2018 after local authorities foiled her murder-for-hire scheme. She was indicted for the crime in October. According to her indictment, on or about Aug. 2, 2018, George attempted to request, command and induce a man to cause the death of her husband, William Allen George Jr.
“The alleged victim, who was gonna be killed, Mr. George, her husband wants her to be placed on probation instead of going to the penitentiary,” Cariker said.
“He’s fully aware of what’s going on today,” the prosecutor said.
The Marshall Police Department reported that on July 27, the Criminal Investigations Division received a tip that Trisha George was reportedly attempting to hire someone to murder her husband, the department said at the time of her arrest.
“Marshall Police detectives reached out to the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division for assistance with the case,” Marshall police said. “During the joint investigation, George reportedly paid an undercover officer to commit the crime.”
George was arrested and booked into the Harrison County Jail, where her bond was set at $1 million.
George confirmed to the judge on Wednesday that she has a history of mental illness; however, she was competent with regard to her plea hearing. George will receive credit for time already served in the case.
