Sheriff Aaron Mitchell reports the arrest of James Joel Maroney (age-49) of Pleasant Hill for setting fires in a rural wooded area in the Spring Ridge Community during the last two months.
Maroney lives near and was captured on game cameras in the areas of the fires off Spring Ridge Road off LA Highway 175 south of Pleasant Hill. There have been approximately 10 separate fires reported in that area since the beginning of February 2026. During the investigation, detectives obtained evidence that Maroney started at least two of the fires.
Maroney was arrested and booked into the Sabine Parish Detention Center for:
- 2-counts of Simple Arson,
- 2-counts of Criminal Trespass.
No bond has been set at this time.
