MANHUNT HAS ENDED; SUSPECT IN CUSTODY

(Near Vowells Mill)-A two-day manhunt for a Mississippi man that eluded Louisiana State Police during a pursuit and crash on Monday morning has ended with his arrest near Vowells Mill according to Sheriff Stuart Wright. Shortly after 2pm this afternoon, a concerned citizen called NATCOM 911 Center stating he encountered the suspect while traveling on La Hwy 478 just East of La Hwy 117. The caller stated as he was driving on La Hwy 478 the male exited some woods flagging him down asking if he could use his phone to call a relative. Th caller stated he attempt0 to detain the suspect but the suspect said "man why you wanna do that" and took off running leaving one shoe behind. Natchitoches Parish Sheriffs Deputies with all-terrain vehicles and the Winn Parish K-9 Tracking Team responded to the scene. Deputies set-up a perimeter of the area near La Hwy 478 and La Hwy 117. Shortly after arriving on scene and deploying the K-9 Tracking Team into the woods, Rayshaud Naylor, 20, of Gulfport, Mississippi was taken into custody without incident. As a precautionary measure and from Naylor being on the run for over 24 hours deputies requested Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS respond to the scene for assessment. Naylor was evaluated and released at the scene by EMS. Naylor is currently being transported to th Natchitoches Parish Detention Center on State Police charges and other charges of Simple Burglary, etc pending by NPSO Detectives. The investigation is ongoing at this time. Sheriff Wright stated that we are pleased that an arrest has been made in this case with no resulting injuries , our deputies are trained to treat the public with dignity and respect at alltimes. We thank Mr Slaughter for his assistance today and thank the public for all of your tips. The Natchitoches Parish Sheriffs Office also extends our thanks to the Winn Parish K-9 Chase Team for their assistance today that led to the apprehension and arrest of Mr Naylor.
