A Port Arthur man has received a 45 year prison sentence for shooting and killing one man and a 20 year prison sentence for shooting and injuring another man after they refused to give him a cigarette. The sentences were a plea deal worked out between the Jefferson County District Attorneys Office and the defendant. State District Judge Raquel West handed down the punishment on Tuesday to 25-year-old Deon Patrick Williams. Prosecutors said it happened on August 16th, 2021 when Williams approached the victims outside of a convenience store and wanted them to give him a cigarette. When they refused, Williams fired seven shots which killed one and he shot the other one as he was running away. When Port Arthur Police arrested him the next day, he told officers “Those guys disrespected me.”
