Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby says a Burkeville man was killed when a tree fell on top of him. According to Burby, the 45-year-old died sometime late Monday afternoon or early evening on property along County Road 2120 at Highway 63, just west of the Sabine River. Burby said his body was discovered shortly before 7:00 Tuesday morning, and he was sitting on his tractor in a pasture with the tree on top of him. The name of the man has not yet been released pending notification of next-of-kin.
