Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman said Thursday that an Evadale man is jailed after a crime spree in both Jasper and Orange Counties late last week.

According to Newman, 33-year-old Mason Tyler Shofner is accused of shoplifting at the Dollar General Store in Buna and then stealing a pickup truck a few blocks away. Newman said it was the first of four vehicles stolen by Shofner on the same day.

Newman said Shofner then went to Orange County where he stole a Cadillac, which he set on fire a short time later. Newman said Shofner also stole two 4-wheelers. According to Newman both vehicles and at least one of the 4-wheelers have been recovered.

Shofner was found and arrested late Saturday evening. He has since been charged in Jasper County with two counts of theft of property and his bond is set at a combined total of $90,000.00. Meanwhile, more criminal charges are pending in Orange County.
