Man found with large amount of cash arrested on suspicion of money laundering

Jasper Police Lieutenant Garrett Foster says a man who was found in possession of a large amount of cash was arrested on suspicion of money laundering. It happened during a traffic stop Wednesday on Highway 190 West. Foster said “Probable cause was developed during the stop and a search of the vehicle revealed a large amount of US currency that is believed to be from illegal operation.” Foster didn’t specify what the illegal operation was, but he did say that the case is still under investigation. The man they arrested is 23-year-old Jaswanth Machavarapu, of Jasper. He has been charged with Money Laundering and his bond has been set at $15,000.00. KJAS News later learned that the individual is allegedly involved in a criminal enterprise within the city of Jasper, and more information is expected to be learned in the coming days as the investigation continues.
