MINDEN, La. – Minden police are investigating after a man -- who apparently had been dead for several weeks -- was found Monday at the Lamplighter Apartments on Emerald Drive.
Minden police responded after getting a call from the Lamplighter Manor's office about a smell that was detected by an exterminator who working around the apartment.
The man's body had been there "quite some time -- weeks," Police Chief Jared McIver said.
The cause of death has not yet been determined.
“It is unknown at this time if it’s natural causes or foul play. We are still investigating and trying to rule out foul play,” McIver said.
“This is an ongoing investigation,” McIver said
McIver said a woman had apparently been living in the apartment with the body since the man’s death. The body has been sent to Little Rock, Ark., for autopsy to determine the cause of death, the chief said.
There are still a lot of unanswered questions at this point, including why the death wasn’t reported, McIver said.
Lead investigator Lt. Shane Griffith said officers discovered the body on the floor of the apartment’s living room.
“One of the questions we have in our investigation is why she did not report the death," Griffith said.
Griffith said the man was 54 years old.
