A resident of the Belgrade Community is in the Newton County Jail after Sheriff Robert Burby says he shot a vehicle that on the highway in front of his house. Burby says it occurred shortly before the noon hour on Tuesday at 4216 Farm to Market Road 1416. According to the sheriff, 43-year-old LaGerald Jackson was the shooter, and the gunshot hit the driver side of the vehicle and shattered a front window and a rear window. Burby said the victim, who was not identified, was bleeding from his right arm, but refused medical treatment. Sheriff Burby said Jackson was already named in a warrant for Deadly Conduct-Discharge of a Firearm, and he was arrested on a new charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. His bond was set at a combined total of $100,000.00 and he remains behind bars.
