OPELOUSAS, La. (KALB) - A man has been arrested for killing his mother and leaving her body in a trash can, according to the Opelousas Police Department.

Police said on June 22, they learned that a man had admitted to the homicide. Officers found the body inside a trash can under the carport of the home on Park Circle in Opelousas.

Opelousas police worked with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Department to locate the suspect, Aaron Lloyd, at a home in Krotz Springs.

Lloyd was taken into custody and confessed that he had killed his mother, Lisa, Lloyd, 65, by injecting her with meth, then beating her to death.

Lloyd was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail, charged with first-degree murder, aggravated second-degree battery, obstruction of justice, failure to seek assistance and distribution of schedule II drugs.

“This is a deeply tragic and heartbreaking case that has impacted our entire community,” said Opelousas Police Chief Graig LeBlanc. “We ask that everyone keep the Lloyd family lifted in prayer during this incredibly difficult time. Our department is committed to pursuing justice with integrity, and we thank the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office for their swift and professional assistance.”

The investigation is still ongoing.
