RPSO said deputies arrived at a home on Hyland Park Drive on June 22 around 8:15 a.m., regarding a suspect who refused to leave.
Deputies determined Jiyason K. Singleton, 19, of Alexandria, arrived at the home uninvited and entered without permission, holding a handgun at the victim. The victim then allegedly fired a handgun at Singleton, causing him to retreat into the front yard, where RPSO found him.
A witness told RPSO that Singleton threw something near a parked vehicle on the property. A handgun was found under the vehicle. RPSO confirmed it was in Singleton’s possession and that he hid the gun to hide the evidence before the deputies’ arrival.
RPSO determined that the victim was protecting themselves and the residents in the home and that Singleton was the aggressor.
Singleton was arrested for home invasion, aggravated assault with a firearm, obstruction of justice and criminal damage to property. He was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center, held on a $65,000 bond.
