Mail carrier recovering from dog attack thanks deputy who saved her life

U.S. Postal Service employee Tamara Hartford has been released from a hospital after undergoing months of treatment following a March 19th attack by two dogs. It happened in the Curtis Community as Hartford was walking toward the porch of a house to deliver a package. She was left in very critical condition was traumatic injuries. Hartford’s life was saved by Jasper County Deputy Daniel Coons who happened to be a nearby house and heard her screaming for help. He shot both dogs to stop the attack. One of the dogs died instantly, while the other survived. According to Deputy Karli Cherry, she and her family have maintained contact with the deputy throughout her hospitalization, and recently Tamara met with Deputy Coons at the Sheriff’s Department to thank him for saving her life. Meanwhile, the owner of the dogs, 30-year-old Jordan Cormier, was later arrested and charged with two third degree felony counts of Attack by Dog Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. Cormier was also charged with three class A misdemeanor counts of Cruelty to Animals after deputies say it was discovered that the two dogs and a pig were being kept in deplorable conditions by Cormier.
