Magnolia Springs man accused of making counterfeit money

Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard said Sunday that a man had been charged with forgery after counterfeit money was allegedly found in his possession on Friday.

Havard the events which led to the arrest of Brandal Lugene Burks, II, began when a deputy from his department, who was on routine patrol on Highway 87, spotted a motorcycle with no license plate.

Havard said that as Sergeant Chad Ainsworth attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver threw items along the road. Havard said he and others later found numerous bills they believed to be counterfeit.

Burks, who was said to be a resident of Magnolia Springs, was taken to the Jasper County Jail where he later appeared before a judge and was charged with Forgery and tampering with evidence.
