A man charged with the first ever bank robbery in Lumberton has now been indicted by a Federal Grand Jury, and we’ve learned that he was previously convicted and served prison time for a robbery near Lufkin.
Timothy Shane Mitchell, 37, of Kountze, is accused of robbing Community Bank on FM 421 in Lumberton at about 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 6th. Lumberton Police Chief Danny Sullins said after driving away from the bank with cash, officers spotted him a few minutes later on Highway 69 where they were able to get him stopped and into custody.
Mitchell was convicted in 2015 for a robbery of a convenience store in Hudson on the west side of Lufkin. Mitchell served five years in prison for that crime.
At last word Mitchell remained in the Hardin County Jail under a $1 million bond set by Hardin County Justice of the Peace Melissa Minton.
