Lufkin shooting suspect arrested after allegedly shooting at officers and barricading self in home

LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Authorities have arrested a man that reportedly fired at officers in Lufkin Sunday night. According to the Lufkin PD PIO, Jessica Pebsworth, authorities were dispatched to the 700 block of Clark Avenue to a reported disturbance. According to Pebsworth, 47-year-old Jason Penick, of Lufkin, fired at arriving officers on the scene which escalated the incident. Penick reportedly barricaded himself inside a home leading to an hours-long standoff with Lufkin PD and other agencies including Angelina County Sheriff’s Office, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Texas DPS, and the State Police SWAT Team. Penick remains under custody and is charged with aggravated assault against a public servant.
