About 135 people turned out on Friday evening for a prayer as the ministers of Jasper and local leaders called for peace and harmony following the police shooting that left a 67-year-old Jasper man dead on Tuesday. The event which was organized by Pastor Gary Marshal of Harvest Church, along Reverend Rodney Norsworthy and Father Ron Foshage of St. Michael's Catholic Church began at 7:00 pm on the gazebo of the courthouse square in Downtown Jasper. As the sun began to set, the prayers went up as the local ministers and others prayed one after the other asking for peace and harmony following the tragic incident. In addition to the ministers, others speaking included Jasper City Council members Angel McCroskey and Lequin Hildebrand. Jasper Mayor Anderson Land, Jr. whose cousin Elvin Land was killed in the incident was emotionally moved, declined to speak.
